I previously worked at BuzzFeed, where I started as a senior editor back in 2007 (and helped popularize Disaster Girl) and went on to be editorial director, overseeing the team who popularized lists & quizzes. You're welcome/I'm sorry? After a brief stint helping launch YouTube Nation in 2014, I was in charge of expanding BuzzFeed's international footprint, and launched our offices in the U.K., Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Japan. I’ve been at Medium since 2019.

In my past life as a journalist, I wrote for Salon.com, Der Spiegel, Details, LA Weekly, Intro, and the East Bay Express. In 2004, I was a Fulbright grant recipient in Berlin, and in 2003 I graduated from NYU's Cultural Reporting & Criticsm program. In the even murkier past, I was founding member of We Are Scientists, the world’s most famous rock band.
