Rosemary Mercedes is Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer (CCO) for Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America.
As the first CCO for the Company, Mercedes defines Univision’s overall communications strategy, including the media relations approach for all corporate and business matters, industry issues, and programming and talent publicity efforts. She works closely with a broad and varied range of constituents, across all business and corporate units to develop communications strategies that contribute to and advance Univision’s business plan and operating objectives.
Mercedes is an accomplished communications leader with nearly 20 years of public relations experience. She and her team engage media and influencers through a lens that represents the increasingly diverse new American mainstream, while strategically positioning Univision as the innovative and influential company it is today.
She has played an integral role in building and executing some of Univision’s most successful communications and awareness campaigns over the past 10 years. Her impact has been recognized by the industry several times throughout her career; most recently Mercedes was named the 2017 Pioneer of the Year by the Hispanic Public Relations Association. She was named to The Holmes Report’s 2016 list of Rising Communications Leaders in North America, among the Top Women in PR by PR News and as one of the Top 40 Under 40 PR Professionals in the U.S. by PR Week magazine. Mercedes serves on the Board of Directors for ArtsConnection, New York City’s most comprehensive arts-in-education organization, she supports the LaGrant foundation, a non-profit group focused on increasing diversity among PR professionals, and she serves on the executive steering committee for Univision’s Women’s Leadership Council.
Prior to Univision, she worked in various public relations roles across sectors, including non- profit and higher education. Her professional background includes international experience having worked at Halogen Communications, a public relations firm in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she partnered with clients across the education, social responsibility and property sectors. Mercedes earned a Master of Arts in Corporate and Public Communications from Seton Hall University, where she also mentors current undergraduate students through the Communication Honors Associates Mentoring Program (CHAMP). She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French.
