Tom Buontempo

President, ATTENTION

About

Tom is President of Attention, one of the first-ever social media agencies.  He’s spent over 15 years working with clients such as Intel, BMW, P&G, Goldman Sachs and American Express to redefine the traditional notions of advertising and brand storytelling.  He co-founded KBS Content Labs, which houses agency’s content practice, brand newsroom and content studio and built out their social media offering. Additionally, Tom was tasked with cross-agency integration, developing strategic partnerships and new capabilities while working closely within the startup community, including the MDC ventures arm to evaluate partners, consult on product roadmaps and track emerging media industry shifts.

Tom has a consistent track record of partnering with his clients on some of their most ambitious initiatives including launching American Express OPEN Forum and Small Business Saturday, Intel’s tech culture magazine iQ, bringing BMW to social media and launching its first-ever electric vehicle through emerging media amongst others.  He was named one of Business Insider’s Most Creative People in Social Media and has spoken at events including SXSW and Advertising Week, while providing regular commentary about the ever-changing social/mobile landscape across the industry.

At Attention, he’s spent the last three years transforming the agency’s offering to meet a modern client use case, including an evolved philosophy, new leadership team, expanded capabilities and agile operating model.  Most recently, as an expansion of their influencer practice, he concepted and launched Meat & Produce, a brand new 5,500 square foot Santa Monica test facility dedicated to helping raw creators build a business around their craft while developing more authentic content and experiences for the agency’s clients.  Though an expansion of the content and influencer capabilities, it’s looked at as an experiment in the future of creativity and production in a world where the traditional agency creative model can’t ignore the growing influence of up-and-comers who sit within cultural circles and have grown highly-engaged followings based on their expertise and their craft.  The Meat & Produce brand will continue to champion the next generation of creativity while equipping up-and-coming creators with the tools and resources to understand how to navigate challenges such as business affairs, legal disclosure, self-serve production and brand partnerships.
