Matt Bean

SVP of Editorial Innovation, Time Inc.

About

Matt Bean is Senior Vice President of Editorial Innovation at Time Inc., one of the largest media companies in the world, where he leads a group charged with extending the company's award-winning content. Combining new approaches to technology, edit, and advertising will allow his group to connect with emerging audiences in engaging and sustainable ways. Bean also directs Time Inc.'s Native Studio content initiatives.

Matt comes to this role from Entertainment Weekly where he was Editor, charged with editorial oversight of the brand's print as well as its digital properties. Before helming EW, Matt served as managing editor of SportsIllustrated.com, where he launched numerous digital brands, including the live, daily talk show called SI Now, pioneered Time Inc.'s long form content strategy, and was awarded an Emmy for his multimedia work in 2013.

Matt gained a strong foothold in the both print and digital editorial environments, which is still a largely uncommon feat in the traditional publishing world. Bean joined Time Inc. in 2012 from Rodale, where he was articles editor at Men's Health magazine and Vice President of Digital Media for Rodale's portfolio of brands.  During his eight-year tenure at Men's Health, Matt oversaw the launch of 30-plus mobile applications for the brand and pioneered a first-to-market tablet strategy for the magazines.

Matt began his career covering trials for Court TV. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.S. in Psychology and Biology and earned a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Bean resides in Brooklyn, New York.
